Stratigraphy

Phase 7m encompasses the strata (s144 and s148) associated with the "Western Expansion" that relocated the sacral area of the temple mound. Most of the construction was centered farther along the EDIII revetment wall f11 to the west in J5. However, in J3 an apron was constructed in several iterations and capstones were added to the revetment wall.
In the time period covered by s148, the east half of the second apron f556 was built. It abuts an identical structure in J2 immediately to the east. Capstones f591 were added to the EDIII revetment wall f11.
In the time period covered by s144, the second apron was extended farther to the west (f532 and f10). It can be differentiated from f556 by design and construction, perhaps reflecting fewer resources available for added construction.

Typology

Ceramics and items recovered from these layers were minimal. Significantly, an analysis of ceramics from the foundation of f556 resolved an issue of when it was built in favor of the Mittani period in lieu of the EDIII period. Most items are ubiquitous stone tools and clay artifacts.
