Overview

Phase 3m is the most important known phase at the Temple Terrace. It is dated to the EDIII period by ceramics analysis in J6, J2, J3, J1 and J5 units. In red is indicated the J6 structures which are dated to the EDIII by the stratigraphic and ceramic analysis. The phase is long and it sees the construction and first use of the structures.

Construction

^wall12 is the Revetment Wall which is dated in other JP units to this phase. The Staircase flank wall ^wall6 is dated to EDIII by pottery abutting its lower courses. This indicates that these structures were used together in the same State of Construction. It is still possible that during this period there are interventions on the building which are not recorded in the excavations. Elswere (Construction Phases) is discussed the possible architectural development of the buiding.

A screen wall f227 could be built earlier than (^wall12) and ^wall6. An early EDIII dump f200 covers the wall. Only the upper course of this wall is exposed and it is unknown how deep it goes.

Accumulations and floors

Accumulations f307, f308 cover the first courses of ^wall6.Two floors f303 and f312 are related to the use of the plaza in front of the staircase.

Dump

A Dump of sherds and kiln waster f200 covers wall f227. This event signs the end of the use of wall f227. The pottery is dated to the Early EDIII, meaning that probably this wall was built earlier than EDIII.

Typology

The objects found in the earlier strata are not of particular interest or are too fragentary to be mentioned here. Dump f200 was reach in ceramics. To mention is a sherd with a seal impression q318.4, and an sherd with an inscribed horse q457.1.
