Stratigraphy

Phase 3m is probably the most important and significative in J1. It is a period, Early EDIII, of major rebulding in the city of Urkesh, during which, the Terrace complex was built and the evidences from other units (J2, J3, J5, J6) seem to confirm the period of deep change. In J1 two main elements part of the Temple terrace are found: the Revetment wall, and the Escarpment. The construction of these structures removed part of the earlier layers through a deep cut, making our understanding more complex. J1 shows the base of the Terrace, with the Revetment wall sorrounding the terrace itself along the southern side in a circular shape. At the base of the wall the escarpment ridges the level of the Plaza.
