-wk Thirty-one reported for work.  Organized into 5 teams with one relay assistant.

-sf gm, jw, dc, and jo all worked in the field, co-ordinating a large number of diverse activities in the unit.

-sn jw drew sections for the north and east baulks of k22, where the string was aligned by the laser level and the elevation was m3653+85-150=8303cm.  He began to draw the east baulk of k3, where the string was aligned by the laser level and the elevation was m3656+85-150=8276cm.

dy Detailed ournal for this square being written by dc, who supervised the work there.  Removed layer, f287, from the SE quadrant and uncovered a large, cut stone with a square top, f289, which was aligned with the palace walls and at an appropriate elevation to have a functional purpose, whose revelation unfortunately must await next year's excavations.

dy Continued to excavate living accumulation, f278, covering pise floor, f213.  We are still finding a number of sherds from jars that may be partially restorable.  We anticipate that it will take several more days to clear f213.

dy Removed topsoil, f282, and accumlation underneath, f291.  Under f291, accumlations differed north and south.  To the south was a clean, reddish, bricky material, accumulation, f293.  To the north was a grayish, ashy accumulation, f294.

dy began to excavate carefully accumlations f134 and f124, designated in the MZ16 season.  Uncovered a patch of soil covered with deteriorated reed matting, f292, in the NW quadrant and the top of a course of bricks, f295, in the middle near the north baulk.
